6 rules for using Telegram bots safely
Updated: Oct 13, 2026
Bots are the most useful part of Telegram, but fake bots exist too. These six rules keep you out of most traps.
1. Check the username letter by letter
Fake bots copy famous bots' names with a tiny difference in the username (an extra letter or a _bot added at the end). Always open bots from a link you trust.
2. Never share your login code or password
No bot will ever need the login code Telegram sends you or your two-step verification password. Any bot that asks is a scam.
3. Pay only inside Telegram
Real payments open in Telegram's own payment window (Telegram Stars or an official invoice). If a bot sends you to an outside website to enter card details, stop.
4. Don't believe "guaranteed profit"
Bots and groups promising "deposit and double it" are scams. Real game and crypto bots don't guarantee earnings.
5. Don't grant permissions you don't need
If a bot asks for your phone number, location or contacts, ask yourself why. An image bot doesn't need your contacts.
6. Block and report suspicious bots
In the bot chat use ⋮ → Block and Report. Every Telegram Kiosk listing is checked daily; listings that break the rules are removed.
